The Burdekin Dam is massive. Several times the size and capacity of Sydney Harbour. The ride up to the dam was steep and mostly on the road. There is a huge amount of unused infrastructure there for visitors as well as unused housing. The camping grounds are well maintained with toilets, showers (hot!), laundry and even a swimming pool.
VIEWS OF THE DAM
The narrow road above the rocks is where we crossed. The dam was at 97% capacity and a week later it was overflowing.
The day before we left they began releasing water for irrigation. Very loud and very daunting for both horses and riders
